Dr. Kelly McGuire

Veterinarian/owner

Dr. McGuire grew up in the suburbs of St. Louis, Missouri. She attended Truman State University in the middle of rural northern Missouri for a B.S. in Biology. In August of 2000, Dr. McGuire moved to Boulder, Colorado to attend graduate school. After earning her Masters in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology she decided to leave full-time research behind working first as a receptionist, then an assistant, and finally as an uncertified technician (in the time before Certified Veterinary Technicians were anywhere but a teaching hospital or specialty hospital). She attended Colorado State University’s Professional Veterinary Medicine Program graduating in 2008.

While over the years there have been a variety of pets in Dr. McGuire’s life including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, and fish. She currently has Diesel the Border Collie, and Smithwicks and Murphy, both Bengals.

Over the past 13 years, she has worked as a small animal veterinarian in a variety of settings. In 2012 she moved to Australia on a whim, 4 ½ years later returning married with an Australian husband, a baby, a dog, and a Monaro. For the last 4 years, Dr. McG worked in urban Denver at Park Hill Veterinary Medical Center. In 2020 she finally made the leap of faith to build her own hospital.

Dr. McGuire loves dentistry and can be unreasonably excited by teeth. After working in rural Australia, she is willing to perform most soft tissue surgeries (but not orthopedics, no saws, and hammers for her!). Practicing medicine in a way that is individualized to her patients is always the primary goal.

Dr. McKayla Peterson

Veterinarian

Dr. Peterson was born and raised in Gillette, Wyoming. She attended Eastern Wyoming College where she received a scholarship to play volleyball while achieving her Associate of Science Degree. She then transferred to the University of Wyoming and completed her Bachelor of Science Degree. She spent a veterinary-based semester abroad in Thailand where she worked on many different species, with elephants being her favorite animal to work on. She then moved to the beautiful Caribbean Island, St. Kitts, where she completed her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, and spent her clinical year at the University of Florida.

Dr. Peterson has two fur babies, her island dog, Dobby that she adopted from St. Kitts, and her three-legged cat Ginny, that she adopted on her shelter medicine rotation at the University of Florida.

Dr. Peterson fell in love with veterinary medicine because she wanted to be a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. She especially enjoys soft tissue surgery, and has recently become certified in acupuncture.
